Without Walls Ministry pastor Gordon Cashwell was inspired by the bible verse Matthew 25:35 to give Charleston area residents the opportunity to serve others on Christmas Day. The Citadel made its football stadium available for the celebration in 2012, and the fifth annual celebration will take place Sunday, December 25.
Matthew 25:35 expresses God’s desire for us to live as servants, feed the hungry, clothe the cold, and enjoy fellowship with those who are alone. When people enter the stadium, food is served as a choir sings. Actress Chris Weatherhead from Folly Beach coordinates a live nativity scene. Medical and dental services and haircuts are provided.
When the Christmas celebration ends, gifts are provided to those who need them, including bicycles, winter clothing and blankets are distributed, and families may pick up grocery boxes. Smiles are plentiful.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to set up the Stadium Saturday, December 24 from 9 am to 5 pm and to serve the guests on Christmas Day with shifts starting at 11 am and 2:30 pm. People who wish to volunteer are asked to sign up at http://www.BirthdayParty4Jesus.org. Volunteers 12 and younger must be accompanied by a parent.
Those wishing to donate bicycles, shoe boxes filled with gifts, winter cloths or provide services should call 843-958-1039 or e-mail Pastor Cashwell at Gordon.Cashwell@gmail.com. Church groups are encouraged to organize and lead activities for children.
