When you became a mom, Christmas takes on a whole new meaning. It is not about you anymore… it is about your children. It is about how to make this season extra special for your little ones, and I am not talking about buying gifts. Christmas is about family, friends, and loved ones. It is about teaching our kids what really matters.
As parents, it can be as simple as gathering around a Christmas tree with our children and seeing them be creative while decorating the tree. Although it can be challenging for some parents (including myself), watching the decorations being hung so imperfectly… but, who cares. Just embrace their joyful moment!
Keeping with the simplicity theme, another fun activity could be a walk along the beach. Yup, the beach! Here in the Lowcountry, the temperature has not gotten very cold yet, so we can still enjoy a fun walk at the beach. My children love to collect shells.
If you are a West Ashley resident (we proudly are), another activity is the traditional picture with Santa at the Citadel Mall. Did you know our Santa has been the same person for the last four years in a row?
Another fun idea would be to visit the historical Charles Towne Landing. We live in a neighborhood nearby, and the kids love to ride their bikes to there. Of course, we cannot skip taking a walk around the grounds to see all the native animals that existed in South Carolina during the 1670s, including bison! Or pack the family in the car and view the Holiday Festival of Lights display at James Island County Park!
So, do not stress this holiday season trying to find entertainment for your family. Stay simple, be local, stay local.
Remember the best memories can be the simple ones…
