Planet Fitness will open in the newly named Collins Square at the corner of US 78 and Berlin G. Myers Parkway in Summerville by the end of 2016. The new space will occupy approximately 29,000 square feet adjacent to Palmetto State Armory, which opened in late September.

The new facility will promote a community atmosphere and feature a large selection of signature purple and yellow branded cardio, circuit-training and weight-training equipment, as well as six tanning beds, five hydromassage beds and six reclining massage chairs. The location will also include a total body enhancement red light chamber. Fitness instruction and training is also included with membership.

“Our mission is to enhance people‚Äôs lives by providing a high-quality fitness experience in a welcoming, non-intimidating environment,” says Shelley Choquette, Business Development Manager for Planet Fitness. “Our Judgment Free Zone will soon be available to Summerville residents.”

Other Planet Fitness locations throughout the lowcountry include Northwoods Mall, Citadel Mall and Long Point Road in Mt Pleasant.

The fitness franchise was founded in 1992, when Michael Grondahl acquired a financially struggling New Hampshire gym and dramatically reduced membership cost to compete against better-known brands. Today, Planet Fitness is one of the largest and fastest-growing fitness center franchises in the United States, and their standard membership fee remains one of the lowest nationally.
