Ashley Landing shopping center on Sam Rittenberg Blvd. is attracting popular new tenants. The latest is the brewery Frothy Beard, which shares a space with Zombie Bob’s Pizza. The businesses operate in a space which was formerly occupied by Legacy Church.
Frothy Beard is owned by Michael Biondi, Steve McCauley and Joey Scionolfi, who moved their brewing operation from Ashley Phosphate Rd. in North Charleston in March, and Push Digital CEO Wesley Donehue. The facility includes four fermenters and also serves up craft soda and wine. The pizzeria has offerings ranging from New York style to Chicago deep dish, calzones and salads.
Co-owner Michael Biondi says the brewery has retained many of its former North Charleston patrons and has attracted many residents in the surrounding Old Charles Towne District neighborhoods. Biondi lives in West Ashley and loves the location and the loyal customers. Frothy Beard and Zombie Bob’s pizza have over 60 employees.
The establishment is family-friendly with a children’s play area and board games. There are group activities throughout the week, including yoga on Monday, Frothy Fit Club on Tuesday, which usually includes a two-mile run (led by Donehue), karaoke night on Wednesday, trivia night on Thursday and live music on Saturday. The establishment is part of the Faison Enterprises effort to revitalize the Ashley Landing shopping center. A new furniture store will open soon, and ground has been broken for a new 20,000 square foot retail center facing Sam Rittenberg. Frothy Beard customers can take home draft beer in growler jugs and do pick-up orders. The business has plans to can and bottle its beers and distribute them throughout the lowcountry.
