A trio of friends recently realized a dream by opening Twisted Cypress Brewing Company at 1897 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., situated between Citadel Mall and Westwood Plaza. The establishment functions as a coffee shop in the mornings and craft beer taproom Thurs. through Sun. Find the taproom hours here: http://www.twistedcypressbrewingco.com/new-page/
The business moved into the former Moose Lodge, which had been abandoned for about 10 years and was destined to be converted into a parking lot. The owners spent a full year overhauling the dilapidated building while maintaining full-time jobs elsewhere. The facility includes a large outdoor area with picnic tables. Live music is performed on Fri. and Sat. and there are food trucks parked in the back, including Southside 17, Immortal Lobster and Food Box. Twisted Cypress shares parking with the adjacent Plugs appliance center.
The Coffee Haus features locally roasted beans from Charleston Coffee Exchange. Espresso and lattes are on the coffee menu. The Brewery Taproom uses German-style brewing techniques and has six fermenters on the premises. Among the beer offerings are Porter, malt, blonde, India Pale Ale, and amber.
Twisted Cypress is committed to giving back to the community and supporting local charities. The brewery is hosting Lowcountry AIDS Services Pint of Hope Night Thurs., Apr. 27 from 4 to 8 pm. The owners will donate $1 for every beer purchased to the charity.
