West Ashley High School (WAHS) seniors recently had the opportunity to perform the duties of faculty and staff members at the annual Senior Takeover Day. The students previously had the opportunity to interview up to three faculty or staff members and then shadow them for a day.
Principal Lee Runyon said, “West Ashley High School’s mission is to empower students to grow and lead. Every year, we see our seniors become stronger leaders after they participate (in Senior Takeover Day).”
WAHS technical education (CTE) Chair Sandra Pennekamp sees the annual event as an opportunity to make students more career-ready. “Senior Takeover Day enhances real-life preparation and gives students a sample of work-based learning,” she said.
Senior Kylie Bibler fulfilled the duties of Public Relations Coordinator Donnie Newton. Bibler said the event gives students an idea of what they may want to do in the future and described the day as a fun experience.
