The Summerville Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit (ESU) broke down the door at the downtown Summerville Hamilton Motel to arrest a 63-year-old male suspect. The incident was triggered when the suspect called police, stating that someone was standing outside of his motel room door, according to department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Nick Santana.

Lieutenant Santana noted that police responding at the scene did not find anyone standing outside the suspect’s room and that the suspect refused to respond to them. The suspect is allegedly a military veteran with a history of mental illness related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The Dorchester County Magistrate’s office ordered a mental evaluation on the suspect.
