There is only one contested race for Charleston County Council – the open seat for District 7, which includes most of the 29407 zip code in West Ashley. Incumbent Democrat Colleen Condon did not seek re-election. I support Republican Brantley Moody for this seat, which would give the Republicans a majority on County Council for the first time since 2006.
Moody has a strong financial background with his 20-year career in commercial banking and understands the needs of the small business community. His father, Bill Moody, is a Charleston City Councilman, and he has forged strong ties with other City Council members. It is very important for County and City Council members to work together as part of the West Ashley revitalization process. The County deals with zoning and economic development issues in the unincorporated areas of West Ashley.
The winner of the District 7 race will serve on the 19-member West Ashley Revitalization Commission, which will make important decisions on re-zoning, reducing traffic congestion, upgrading shopping centers, improving drainage and attracting new businesses. Moody has researched the issues extensively and would represent the needs and concerns of West Ashley neighborhoods and businesses in the process.
Moody faces former Charleston County School Board chairwoman Ruth Jordan in the race.
