The NFL preseason is into its third week, and the college football season started with a bang when the Charleston Southern University Buccaneers took five-time Football Championship Series winner North Dakota State Bison into overtime on ESPN before a heartbreaking loss. The South Carolina Gamecocks kick off the major college schedule Thursday when they travel to Vanderbilt.

The Rio Olympic Games offered a brief interlude to sports fans as the USA dominated in the medal count, but the opening of football season will provide hours of viewing pleasure every weekend for the next five months.
