After a long and often unstructured summer break, thousands of Lowcountry students return to school this week. It requires significant adjustments for parents and students, alike.

Here are some tips to make the transition smoother:

  • Regulate bedtimes.
  • Don’t skip breakfast.
  • Ensure your children have time to play and unwind after school and then have a structured study period.
  • Prepare an information sheet with locker number and combination and class bell schedules with teachers’ names.
  • Have children maintain a desk calendar with school holidays, tests, project deadlines and after-school activities and review weekly.
  • Empty and organize backpacks nightly.

Establishing a consistent routine will get the school year off to a good start!
