Adddlestone Hebrew Academy (AHA) with a team of five students traveled to Sumter Civic Center on October 26 to compete in the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) math competition. Addlestone is Charleston’s only Jewish day school for children age 18 months to Grade 8.
Thirty-one teams from twenty-one schools around the state competed. First, all the students individually took an hour-long written test comprised of 50 questions, then the teams faced off in five speed rounds. Eighth grader, Zahara Goldkin, won 3rd place out of 180 students, while the Addlestone team, Tricia Eisenhart, Zahara Goldkin, Ben Lipschutz, Eitan Sigman, and Hadassah Sternfeld, placed third out of 31 teams.
“It’s exciting to see the pride the mathletes have in their success , as well as, how proud the other students are of them, ” said Abby Levine, principal. “It was a great step for our school.”
