Andolini’s Pizza at 1940 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard is hosting a benefit for at-risk West Ashley youth Wednesday, September 26 from 6 to 8 pm. Charleston Youth Club, The I Am Foundation and the Deming Park Jets youth football team are all participating in the benefit. The I Am Foundation is asking for donated neck ties and the football team is asking for equipment donations.

Former West Ashley Middle School teacher Maggie Kilgore created Charleston Youth Club after two of her former students were murdered at Ashley Oaks apartments in July. She recognized that too many students didn’t have enough positive influences in their lives or meaningful after-school opportunities and “fall through the cracks.” West Ashley teens have no Boys and Girls Club and no YMCA, and Charleston County School District no longer provides middle school sports and recreation programs.

Kilgore’s aim is for Charleston Youth Club to be able to provide free sports, arts, and tutoring opportunities to West Ashley teens and also give them access to mentors and apprenticeships. Andolini’s will donate a percentage of the proceeds to Charleston Youth Club and participants are asked to make a contribution to the non-profit organization.
