Brukes Coffee and Music[1] opens Saturday at 8 am at 1664 Old Towne Road in West Ashley. The coffee shop, restaurant and retail music shop is in the space recently vacated by Sojourn Coffee.

Owner Chris Bluemel envisions the venue as “a great neighborhood coffee shop and meeting place.” In addition to coffee and baked goods, the shop will offer breakfast and lunch favorites, including stone ground grits. The walls are lined with string instruments for sale. Bluemel has owned Southern String Supply[2] in Mt. Pleasant for 20 years. Patrons who need instrument repairs may drop them off at Brukes.

Bluemel expects to host evening music performances twice a week. Brukes will have outdoor seating and a 15 x 45 foot enclosed dog kennel for patrons. He describes the venue as family friendly and dog friendly. The operating hours will be 6 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm.
