Charleston County School District is preparing to allow high school athletes to begin summer strength and conditioning programs at their schools on Monday, June 22. Students who wish to participate may get tested for COVID-19. The Fetter Health Care Network is providing free tests at West Ashley High School Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm and at Moultrie Middle School in Mt. Pleasant Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. Appointments for the tests may be scheduled at 800-365-7410.

CCSD schools are following the guidelines presented by Governor Henry McMaster’s AccelerateED Task Force. Weight rooms, restrooms, meeting rooms and other multi-use facilities will be sanitized frequently. Students, coaches and school staff will undergo health screenings each day before entering the school. Schedules will be established for each team to work out. No spectators will be allowed to attend during the first 10 training sessions.

Individuals must bring their own water bottles to the workouts and wear face masks in sports where the covering is not inhibitory. Social distancing will be maintained and drills will be conducted in groups of 10 or fewer. No personal contact will be allowed. The South Carolina High School League will revisit the guidelines to be followed after the first two weeks of training. For more information on the strength and conditioning program, contact the high schools or the CCSD office of Strategy and Communications at 843-937-6303.
