The Charleston County School District (CCSD) held a School Choice Fair on Saturday, January 20. The district held the fair at four locations this year for the first time. Parents could attend fairs closest to their home at either Burke High School, C.E. Williams Middle School, North Charleston High School, or St. Johns High School. Most parents brought their children and had the opportunity to ask questions to choice school administrators. There was more interest in elementary schools than middle or high schools.  Parents were excited about the options available.

CCSD advertised the fair in a plethora of venues including ads in the Moultrie News, Post and Courier, and West Of newspapers with a sticker placed on the cover of the Post and Courier. In addition, there was a School Choice Fair billboard on I-26, an automated phone call to each CCSD student’s home, and a prominent spot on the main page of the CCSD website. It is easier to reach out to parents with children already attending CCSD schools, so elementary schools reached out to members within their communities.

The online applications for the 37 choice schools must be submitted before noon on Saturday, February 10. Interested parents may address questions to the hotline number 843-937-6366 from 9 am to 4 pm on January 22,23, and 24 and February 8 and 9. Families will be notified of acceptance on March 16.
