Charleston City Councilman Peter Shahid said that Charleston County transportation officials are still tabulating the approximately 300 responses residents submitted on possible “suicide merge” intersection improvements. Shahid hosted his monthly “Coffee and Conversation with Peter” Saturday at Charles Towne Landing.

Shahid expects the results to be presented to Mayor John Tecklenburg’s office by the end of the month. Feedback submitted on the four designs presented in public meetings and on-line will lead to modifications and  consolidation. The resulting changes will then go through another round of public input before a final design is recommended. The SCDOT would have to approve the design before it can go out for bids.

Another issue discussed was the status of the Parker’s permitting process. The gas station, convenience store and restaurant application for the intersection of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Orange Grove Road has cleared the Board of Zoning Appeals and will head back to the Design Review Board (DRB) to re-examine the lighting and landscaping plans and a modification to the fuel pump canopy design.
