Charleston County Republican Party is sponsoring two debate watch parties for Wednesday’s runoff debate between Governor Henry McMaster and challenger John Warren. The events will be held at West Ashley restaurant Parson Jack’s, 3617 Shelby Ray Court, and Sticky Fingers, 341 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant (near the Ravenel Bridge). The debate will take place at the Newberry Opera House in the Midlands region in front of a live audience and will be broadcast live at 7 pm on South Carolina ETV. The debate is sponsored by ETV and the (Charleston) Post and Courier newspaper.

During the five-candidate June 12 primary election, McMaster captured 42% of the 367,000 votes cast. Warren followed with 28% of the vote. Third place finisher Catherine Templeton (21%) and  Lieutenant Governor Kevin Bryant in fourth place (7%) both endorsed Warren two days after the primary. Voter turnout in runoffs is always significantly less than in the primary. The 4th Congressional District runoff could help drive turnout in the Upstate for Greenville native Warren. Lee Bright, the frontrunner in the 4th CD, has endorsed Warren.

There are still ticket available for the live audience at the Newberry Opera House. People may order tickets through the South Carolina Republican Party by calling 803-988-8440. Debate tickets are $45 and tickets for the debate and a reception with the candidates cost $85.
