Construction is underway for MUSC’s 127,000 square foot ambulatory care clinic at Citadel Mall. The clinic, at the former JC Penney space, is expected to open in December 2019. About 20 medical services will be offered at the clinic, including primary care, specialty care, out-patient surgery and physical therapy. MUSC recently released a video[1] reveling the floor plans.

MUSC entered into a 15-year lease agreement with Trademark Properties for the space, called MUSC West Campus, in late 2017. It cited three reasons for the site selection – convenient location for patients and nearly 900 employees, plentiful and free parking, and an opportunity to participate in the revitalization of West Ashley.

The arrival of the clinic will achieve a goal Trademark Properties[2] CEO Richard Davis established when he purchased Citadel Mall in 2017 – increased foot traffic. More people visiting the mall will increase demand for restaurants, coffee shops and other retail outlets. Gymnastics studio Flip Gym[3] opened its doors in early 2018. Davis also has plans to open a traveling sports event center at the mall, which would host basketball and volleyball tournaments, cheerleading and dance competitions and other events. Such a facility could attract thousands of visitors to the area each weekend.
