Representative Joe Cunningham is holding a Town Hall Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Charleston County Main Library, 68 Calhoun Street. Doors open in the 200 seat auditorium at 10:15. Participants may write down questions and place them in a fish bowl. Questions will be drawn at random.
The Charleston Marathon is also going on that morning, but there are no road closures scheduled on Calhoun or East Bay Street. There is a parking lot at the library and at the corner of Calhoun and Alexander Street. There are also metered spaces that have a one hour time limit and are closely monitored.
In 2018, Cunningham became the first Democrat to win the 1st Congressional District in 40 years. President Donald Trump won the district by 13 points in 2016. The Republican nominee will be elected in the June 9 primary or in a possible June 23 runoff. There are currently five announced Republican candidates. The candidate filing period ends March 30.
