Kathy Landing to announce bid for Congress Monday

Mt. Pleasant Town Councilwoman Kathy Landing[1] will announce her bid for the 1st Congressional District Monday at 11 am at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park[2]. She will seek the Republican nomination in a district which Republicans held from 1981 to 2019 before it was captured by Democrat Joe Cunningham in the 2018 election. The district includes parts of Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton and Beaufort counties.

Landing, a certified financial planner, was elected to Mt. Pleasant Town Council in 2017. She joins what is expected to be a large field for the June 2020 Republican primary. Cunningham, who got elected without any political history or voting record, recently voted for the American Dream and Promise Act (HR-6), which would immediately grant Obamacare subsidies, Medicaid, WIC, student financial aid, and other welfare benefits to illegal aliens and give them a pathway to citizenship.
