With gathering restrictions in place during the Charleston Coronavirus response, restaurants are turning to takeout orders to keep their doors open. Chris Bluemel, owner of Brukes Coffee and Music in West Ashley, sent out a message on a neighborhood Facebook page Tuesday announcing that the restaurant was offering curbside pickup for food orders.

I called the restaurant, ordered a breakfast sandwich, and paid by credit card. I was told that my order would be ready in 10 minutes. I happen to live 10 minutes away by foot. As soon as I walked through the door, the manager handed over my order. I was able to get some exercise and enjoy a great breakfast sandwich while maintaining “social distancing.”

One of Brukes’ neighbors at Old Towne Center at 1664 Old Towne Road (across from T-Bonz) is Euro Foods Bakery and Cafe. The family-owned restaurant is also depending on takeout orders during this time of uncertainty. Both Euro Foods and Brukes recently invested considerable money to remodel and equip their businesses and need a steady flow of customers to keep their doors open. West Ashley’s small, locally owned businesses are vital to the quality of life in our area. Consider placing a takeout order at one of our locally-owned restaurants today!
