The St. Andrews Public Service District celebrates its 70th anniversary Saturday, June 15 from 11 am to 2 pm at its headquarters on 1775 Ashley River Road. The celebration festival will include music, games, face-painting, jump castles and a food truck. Fire trucks will be on display at the festival.
The St. Andrews PSD was established by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1949 to provide basic services to a growing unincorporated West Ashley population. While much of West Ashley has been incorporated into the City of Charleston in the succeeding decades, St. Andrews PSD continues to provide fire protection, garbage and trash collection and street lighting to its 28,000 residents.
