After a stormy debut on Apr. 19, the West Ashley Farmers Market enjoyed a sunny day in the second week of the second season. The event will be held each Wednesday until Oct. 4 from 3-7 pm at Ackerman Park, 55 Sycamore Ave. The weekly market was promoted as a key component of the West Ashley revitalization effort in its opening season in 2016 and was well attended.
The market is situated in a grassy field used for soccer games and other recreation activities. It features vendors which offer local produce, baked goods, prepared foods, coffee and other beverages, and live music. The park includes picnic tables, where people can eat, chat, and take in the crowd.
One of the interesting vendors is Blue Pearl Farms of McClellanville, which offers raw honey, skin care products and beeswax candles. The farm is located on a longleaf pine stand and raises 70 bee colonies. The operation includes 2500 blueberry bushes. The annual Lowcountry Blueberry Festival will be held there Sun., June 25 from noon to 6 pm. Get details here: http://bluepearlfarms.com/Blueberry_Festival.html
