Citizens will have an opportunity to learn more about the draft West Ashley Master Plan Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm at The Schoolhouse, 720 Magnolia Rd. Planning consultant Victor Dover from Dover Kohl will present an overview of the draft plan at 6:00, 6:45 and 7:30 and participants can rotate through stations detailing plans for community design and land use, transportation, infrastructure, housing, and economic development. The 19 members of the West Ashley Revitalization Commission (WARC) will go through a similar process from 2 to 5.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to consultants who worked on each section of the draft plan and provide feedback. The WARC will have the opportunity to amend the plan. When the commission signs on to a final version of the plan, it will be reviewed by the City of Charleston Planning Commission and eventually sent to Charleston City Council, which could vote on the plan as early as December 19. Implementation will involve input or approval from Charleston County Council, South Carolina Department of Transportation and the Charleston Area Transportation Study (CHATS) committee.

There is also opportunity to read the draft plan and provide feedback in each area on the project website https://www.planwestashley.com/engage. The process has been in the works since October 2016 and has involved input from thousands of West Ashley residents, business owners, government employees and elected officials.
