The St. Andrews District 10 constituent school board, which sets attendance lines for 10 West Ashley schools, will discuss the merger of C.E. Williams and West Ashley middle schools tonight at 6 pm at the St. Andrews Campus media center, 721 Wappoo Road. The merger was one of many sweeping changes approved by the Charleston County School Board Monday. A representative from Charleston County School District will explain the terms of the merger, and all stakeholders are invited to comment.

The merger calls for all 6th grade students from the two middle schools to be located in the former Middleton High School building on William Kennerty Drive and the 7th and 8th grade students to move into the new C.E. Williams building on the West Ashley High School campus in August 2020. The existing two schools have close to 1250 students. The capacity for the new C.E. Williams building is 950 students. Orange Grove Middle School, a West Ashley public charter school with about 300 students, will not be impacted by the merger. Orange Grove has an independent board of directors.
