The newly-opened West Ashley Theater Center at Ashley Landing will be the site for the May meeting of the West Ashley Revitalization Commission (WARC) Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The theater center, which had its grand opening March 18, is a 10,000 square foot facility which has two dance and rehearsal studios and a 130-seat performance center. The center offers dance and drama lessons[1] for students from three years old through high school.

One of the leading items on the WARC agenda is an update on the Dupont/Wappoo Drainage Study, which addresses improving tidal creek drainage into the Stono River in an area centered along Citadel Mall. Some other agenda items are a vote on the West Ashley Greenway and Bikeway Master Plan and an update on the I-526 Signal Operations Project. There will be a public comment period.

The 19-member WARC, which was formed by a City of Charleston ordinance in 2016, is tasked with implementing the West Ashley Master Plan[2], a blueprint for future development in the area. It consists of elected officials and community leaders from City of Charleston, Charleston County, and St. Andrews Public Service District.
