Charleston County Parks is sponsoring the 15th Annual Harvest Festival.  It will take place at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center on John’s Island on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The highlight of the Harvest Festival is  bluegrass music from five local bluegrass bands performing throughout the day. The event is known as a premier showcase of Charleston’s own bluegrass talent.

Foods for sale include Southern barbecue, roasted and boiled peanuts, kettle korn, and traditional favorite festival fare, plus cold beverages. There is also a crafters’ market.

Harvest Festival is a family-friendly event with children’s activites including hay rides, a stick pony corral, pumpkin decorating, and penny diving. New this year is the youth Archery Turkey Day Shoot. While turkeys will not be harmed in this competition, the winner will take home a frozen turkey. The friendly target-shooting showdown is open to ages 8-17, and turkeys will be awarded to the male and female competitor with the highest score. Ages 8-17 can also try out the sport during an open archery range. The archery range and competition will be open from 12 – 5 p.m. at the festival, and interested competitors can sign up at the event. All activities are free with the festival admission fee.

As part of the festival, Mullet Hall Equestrian Center offers the Harvest Festival Weekend Trail Ride for horse owners on Nov. 4-6. Equestrians are invited to bring camping gear and supplies for two nights of camping and trail riding on 20 miles of beautiful, wooded trails at Mullet Hall.
